As temperatures drop and the weather turns messy and unpredictable in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s the perfect time to head south — just like the migratory birds! So why not treat yourself and get airborne again this winter? Discover the joy of flying in Tenerife’s spectacular surroundings, where sunny skies, diverse flying sites and great conditions are waiting for you.
The Canary Islands — and especially Tenerife — are well-known winter paragliding destinations. Thanks to the mild climate and steady northeast winds, pilots from around the world love flying here. Tenerife delivers over 300 flyable days a year with the best flying conditions from October to April. The island boasts numerous launch sites, soaring ridges and thermal hotspots. Depending on the time of day, you can expect anything from gentle thermals to moderately strong ones, along with variable wind conditions. Ambitious pilots can enjoy spectacular flights from altitudes up to 2200 m AMSL while more experienced ones will find plenty of opportunities for small cross-country (XC) flights.
That said, official infrastructure is limited: very few well-organized takeoff sites and no direct public transport to reach them. There is no assigned emergency radio frequency so communication is arranged by us when organizing the guided tours. Safe landing options are plenty but they can also be challenging without a proper site briefing from a local guide - you won’t find large, grassy fields here. Solid piloting skills and good orientation are essential when it comes to land. There may also be temporary restrictions or hazards that only locals are aware of. Because of the island’s microclimates, airspace restrictions and local regulations, flying with a local paragliding guide is a really smart choice. We will look after your well-being, provide local weather insights and take you to the best flying spots each day.
| How looks your day with a paragliding guide? |
We meet in the morning, usually around 9:30–10:00 am. Before we set off, we provide a weather briefing together with relevant information about the chosen flying site, including airspace restrictions and local limitations. Then we begin our drive to the first flying location. Once we arrive, we’ll have a short site briefing and get ready for takeoff. You can count on our support at the launch site, as well as radio support throughout the flight. Between flights, we like to take some time to relax over a coffee or lunch and enjoy the local cuisine. We fly as much as we can, depending on the weather and flying conditions. The day ends with sunset and a cold beer - the perfect time to relive the day’s flying moments with your fellow pilots, get to know each other better, and make new friends. Sounds good? | Where do we meet the pilots? |
We are located in southwest Tenerife, in Adeje, where all our activities begin, including guided paragliding tours around the island for individual pilots and groups. We have two main meeting points, both of which are easy to reach by public or private transport, including bus, taxi, or Uber. You can also walk from the surrounding hotels or arrive by rental car. There are convenient parking options nearby. We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before the agreed start time to allow enough time to find a parking space or purchase any amenities you may need.
Meeting point Playa de La Enramada, La Caleta beach
Located on the coast with free parkings available in the area. We meet at the small roundabout at the end of the street, between H10 Costa Adeje Palace and the beach bar Chiringuito Coqueluche.
Parking 1: just the same as the meeting point and with small shoping center nearby. (GPS)
Parking 2: near hotels Hovima Jardin Caleta and Royal Hideaway Corales with small supermarket closeby, approximately a 5-minute walk from the meeting point. (GPS)
Alternative parking 3: with a larger parking area and plenty of spaces, approximately a 12-minute walk from the meeting point. (GPS)
Meeting point Tu Trébol Adeje supermarket
Located in the central part of Adeje with covered parking area and easy access to the highway. You will also find a coffee bar and supermarket nearby. We meet near to the Players Golf Shop. (GPS)
| Which flying sites we fly on a guided tour? |
Well, there are many possibilities and the destination is always determined by the current weather and flying conditions. We visit the legendary Teide National Park, with the Izaña launch site at around 2200 m AMSL and landing on the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean, either in Puerto de la Cruz or Puertito de Güímar. We also head to the mysterious Güímar and Arafo, ideal for soaring, thermal soaring and small cross-country flights. When conditions allow, we may go thermal flying from Jama, one of the oldest launch sites in Tenerife. When the winds turn, we can head to the delightful El Tanque or the wild Tamaimo–Los Gigantes. The great flying playgrounds of La Corona and Fasnia offer further possibilities. Taganana, with its breathtaking views, is a dream flight for many pilots. El Sauzal, with its excellent soaring and thermal flying conditions, never fails to impress. The seductive Las Teresitas, with its playful ridge above the beautiful beach, is another fantastic option.
| What should you bring with to join us? |
- valid pilot's license + insurance covering paragliding activities
- full paragliding equipment (glider, harness, rescue parachute, helmet)
- flying instruments (e.g. vario/ GPS, compass, radio, phone with GPS)
- proper clothing for warm and cold weather
- optionally small lunch pack
Lost or damage? No problem, we got you covered! You can rent from us or buy a vario, compass, helmet or other flying equipment and accessories.
| Pilot responsibility and insurance |
Local knowledge and guidance are highly recommended to help ensure safe and suitable flying conditions. However, each pilot remains fully responsible for their own flying activity, from takeoff to landing, including equipment preparation, assessing the conditions and deciding whether to fly. Please check your policies carefully to ensure that paragliding is explicitly included in the coverage and that the geographical and activity limits are suitable for your stay in Tenerife.
- third-party liability insurance – required for paragliding activities in Spain and covering potential damage or injury caused to third parties.
- accident insurance – covering paragliding accidents and including helicopter rescue and emergency assistance.
- travel insurance – recommended to cover medical expenses and repatriation in the event of unexpected situation during your trip.
| What about your experience and flying skills? |
Flying sites in Tenerife are quite demanding and require good take-off and landings skills (often precision landing) as well as active flying knowledge. Both, forward and reverse take-off techniques, are useful on specific lauchsites and in certain wind conditions. You should be already familiar with speed bar and basic rapid descent techniques. Your pilot level should be on IPPI 4 and higher. Are you still building your flying skills? Just let us know.
